Origin Story

It all started at UAL’s Creative Hack 2025, where seven of us—designers, strategists, researchers, and storytellers—came together to tackle a problem we had never considered before: digital hoarding.

At first, it seemed like a small issue. We all had thousands of unread emails, endless duplicate files, and gigabytes of forgotten cloud storage—but wasn’t that normal? As we dug deeper, we realized this was a massive environmental and psychological issue that no one was talking about. The hidden cost of storing unnecessary data was draining energy, increasing carbon emissions, and putting immense pressure on data centers worldwide.

💡 That’s when DataBite was born.

We envisioned a movement, not just a project—a way to educate, inspire, and change the way people manage their digital lives. Over the 48 hours of the hackathon, we built the foundations of an awareness-driven social enterprisededicated to tackling digital waste through:

  • Workshops for young people to spread awareness.

  • Industry collaborations to hold tech giants accountable.

  • Research and policy advocacy to drive real change.

  • Digital sustainability certifications for responsible businesses.

By the end of the hackathon, we had a clear mission, a roadmap, and the drive to turn this idea into reality. What started as a challenge became a shared passion, and we left UAL not just as teammates, but as co-founders of something bigger than ourselves.

This isn’t just about deleting files—it’s about shaping a more mindful, sustainable digital future. And it all began here. 🚀

"The ability to simplify means to eliminate the unnecessary so that the necessary may speak."
